|Turned up to eleven: Fair and Balanced|

While I like Oliver Willis's point here, I think he falls into a word trap that pisses me off no end. What is so conservative about a strong response to terrorism? Is there anything illiberal about protecting the citizen's of this country? No, no, a thousand times no! Now, it is the Republican strategy to claim that they are the experts on national defense and security, but their incompetence has been staggering in its scope. The Democrats should attack this, and reclaim the notion of security and national defense as a core value, irrespective of party. They should also point out, in no uncertain terms, the failures of the Bushies on this score, and provide concrete plans to improve them (like, say, restoring our relations with allies like France, Germany, and Russia, that we need for effective control of international terror). This is NOT, however, "attacking from the right". It is simply standing up for our country's safety and security, which is every citizen's duty.
