Here's a quick hit. Imagine the following conversation fragment;
"I'm not happy about this response, because it only gets at some of the problem. What good is a system that only stops 1/2 of the problem?"
"Well, 1/2 a solution is certainly better than nothing, right?"
Now, quick, are we talking about Missile Defense, or Campaign Finance Reform. It seems that which rhetorical tactic you prefer is highly dependent on whether you like the idea (NMD for righties, CFR for lefties), or not. Just another example of how decrepit and pathetic our national discourse is, we don't even have new spin points anymore, just the same ones recycled for different topics.
